Katie and Brian Rutter have two big reasons to celebrate – they tied the knot, then were personally blessed by Pope Francis just four days later. The co-founders at Thing in a Pot Productions, who just returned from meeting the Holy Father in Rome, share how newlyweds can take part in a special papal blessing called “Sposi Novelli.” They also share an segment of their interview with the Brooklyn Catholic news show, Currents, and part of their wedding video.
If you know someone about to married, they may be able to meet the pope just like Katie and Brian. To receive the “Sposi Novelli” blessing, newlyweds must be married in a Catholic church, go to Rome no later than two months after their wedding and request free tickets to one of the pope’s general audiences which are held nearly every Wednesday. They also must bring along a copy of their sacramental marriage certificate and wear their wedding clothing (or something similar). To request tickets, couples from the USA and Canada can email VisitorsOffice@PNAC.org. Couples from other countries can mail or fax their request along with a copy of their marriage certificate to the address on this website: http://www.vatican.va/various/prefettura/index_en.html
